Does your city make you feel special?

Stalwarts from industry, sport, cinema and the media gathered together on Feb 9th 2008, in Chennai to discuss the one passion that unites and ignites them all – the cities they live in, and love that binds them to the cities.

In talking about the love for their cities and why the love exists in the first place, the forum placed a few thought provoking questions for deliberation – do the cities we all love, love us back. Does our city make us feel special?

The MARG sponsored, ‘Does your city make you feel special?’ programme had thought –leaders namely Kapil Dev, Shobhaa De, Revathy, TT Rangarajan, Gopal Srinivasan and P V Indiresan in a stimulating debate on why they love their cities. The discussion had Vir Sanghvi as the moderator, and focused on crucial facets of city life - are our cities equipped to handle the manifold growth, is it possible to ever love cities for aspects like facilities, infrastructure. And finally, is all of this spelling out a clear and present need for planned super cities into the near future!

Life as we know it; is so intrinsically connected to our cities. There is no doubt that superior infrastructure and facilities would mean that quality of life is that much better and special. The programme also showcased MARG’s mega infrastructure project “MARG Swarnabhoomi”, the land of prosperity a new city conceptualized and promoted by MARG Ltd.

Speaking at the forum, Mr. G R K Reddy, Chairman & Managing Director, MARG Ltd. said, “For years, visioneers have propagated concept cities, where things happen with clockwork efficiency, infrastructure is planned and plentiful. Our new city MARG Swarnabhoomi is a city with the promise of plenty, peace and prosperity. Designed as a global city with world class civil and social infrastructure, MARG Swarnabhoomi delivers the perfect setting for a work-life balance while promoting the walk-to-work concept”

The great minds who participated in the ‘Does your city make you feel special?’ forum, both the speakers and the audience, fuelled the momentum towards the planned cities of the future. This re-emphasized that; Dreamscapes will remain dreams as long as we want them to be. To actually build cities we can love, and which will love us back, we need to act.
